Headlines from Prophecy: 35 Simple Studies on Revelation

35 Studies on Revelation softcover

WHY I’M RECOMMENDING THIS BOOK:

From the back cover, “[Revelation] is the only book in the Bible in which God promises a special blessing to those who will read it and study it.”

This, above all other books, is my favorite on Revelation. DeHaan’s book takes the reader through the major events and doctrines of Revelation with such splendor, clarity and brevity.

Gigantic. Panoramic. Prophetic. Dynamic. Miraculous. Vicarious. Such are the qualities I use to describe the book of Revelation. The end times unfolded and opened in the light of Scripture is, indeed, one of the most profound blessings a Bible student can receive.

Like the old saying, “we don’t know what tomorrow holds but we know Who holds tomorrow,” a study in Revelation helps any serious student see the end so we can say, “we may not know tomorrow, but we know how it all ends.”

An Accessible Guide to Prophecy’s Final Chapter

Coming to a study on Revelation, an early Bible student might think it daunting. And rightly so. But having a reference like DeHaan’s at your side can make a substantial difference. At 308 pages divided across 35 chapters, you’ll encounter such chapters as “The Two Witnesses,”  “The Second Coming of Christ,” and 33 others that shed welcome light on Revelation’s mysteries.

Immediately following the Contents Index is a page dedicated to the scriptural outline of Revelation. I find this page uniquely helpful in sharing the timeline of Revelation with new believers and I know you’ll get a blessing from it as well.

I remember my first exploration of DeHaan’s book and how events unfolded with the stroke of his pen, how meanings were brought to many scriptures pointing toward Revelation and how, many times, you had to wonder how it all pieced together. On this first journey, I explored The Two Witnesses (Chapter 18). It’s a compelling drama with a cast of characters where the main actors aren’t named. Revelation chapter 11, verses 3 – 12 is where we encounter the witnesses. Ten whole verses. But DeHaan writes nine pages about their brief appearance.

DeHaan sheds light on who these two individuals could be, with ample discussion of scriptural references supporting multiple viewpoints.

I believe this book’s biggest selling point is the way it unravels the complex story of Revelation. Here’s a look at the Contents:

Clarity, Confidence, and Hope — Revelation’s Mysteries Made Understandable

In Chapter 12, Redeeming Earth’s Mortgage, DeHaan exposits from a wide canvas to show the diligent Bible student WHY all this is happening. Exploring the title deed to creation and Who holds it, DeHaan highlights the background of Revelation 5:1-7.

This is huge because the Scripture talks about the Root of David. The plan unfolds and soon DeHaan is drawing from Ruth and her kinsman redeemer, Boaz, and showing The Lost Inheritance and Meeting the Conditions, both subheadings in this chapter.

This is vital backstory to understanding how Jesus fulfills the role of Redeemer in creation by meeting ALL the qualifications of a kinsman redeemer. Not to mention the Heart of Christ, the Purpose of God, the New Creation and much, much more.

Revelation is a FASCINATING book full of dramatic events and characters, along with the plan of redemption and the new heaven and earth. DeHaan’s book is filled with insights and does not fall short in covering all the major topics. This is by far my favorite book on the subject.

What the author has done is bring out the largest of all the studies in this book and put forth a meaningful — and very handy — interpretation that for the sake of brevity, alone, easily eclipses other books on the same subject. DeHaan has also written numerous other books, including Daniel the Prophet.
